Experimental sodium-metal battery charges in four minutes without lithium.
Chinese researchers have demonstrated an experimental sodium-metal battery capable of charging at a 15C rate, equivalent to roughly four minutes, while using a quasi-solid gel electrolyte to suppress dangerous dendrites. At a slower 20-minute rate, the battery retained 90% capacity after 2,000 cycles. The technology remains laboratory-stage. Its four-minute charging durability has not been demonstrated over thousands of cycles, and larger pouch cells are still at an early stage.
